The establishment of BuildingSmart in 2005 is the next phase of development for construction industry process improvements through improved collaboration tools following technologies developed by the IAI since 1994. Technologies for designing and constructing buildings that the community values, that meet real needs, that perform better, that impact the environment less, that take less time and money to build and to use. Improving processes, collaboration, and tools, BuildingSmart drives industry uptake of these technologies - providing promotion, implementation, and training programs.
Construction is one of the largest industries in Australia, and our members (both government and private), include Architects, Engineers, and related design, planning, and authority professionals; builders, sub-contractors, product and materials suppliers; and related service providers.
GRAPHISOFT has been a member of the BuildingSMART, formerly International Alliance for Interoperability (IAI), since 1996 and we have been paying close attention to adhering to its Industry Foundation Classes (IFC).
For users, this means that they can safely work in ArchiCAD without fear of being isolated from consultants, clients or other specialists using other software. Industry-wide and continuous sharing of information between CAD (and non-CAD) applications for the life cycle of the building is the goal of the IFC.
