Our architectural practice started with smaller residential projects using a 2D CAD system, but since the directors are very much design based, we purchased ArchiCAD for a 3D modelling tool in the late 90's. Our understanding of ArchiCAD was limited to design and presentation. Entire projects were then completely redrawn for documentation using 2D CAD.
Over the years we have grown enormously. Current projects include - shopping centres; master planning and large residential developments. Our process of documenting in 2D often left us with inadequate paper output at deadline time.
In 2005 Graphisoft demonstrated how ArchiCAD is a complete solution for both design documentation, but more importantly they have taken the time to discover the quirky nature of our office.
Our experience of Graphisoft’s Project Assistance has been great. The response time to any query has been fantastic and the communication has been very open and clear about how to manage the design / documentation challenges of our particular projects.
The knowledge acquired through project assistance has made us far more productive, we have a certainty about getting our documents out on time. We found it remarkable that in a 2 hour time period we were able to complete the master planning documentation for a major infrastructure competition. The client was impressed with the information provided and the presentation.
On a $2.5 Million fit-out I was able to largely complete the design and documentation of thirty drawings that would normally have taken four staff. A junior was able add the finishing touches over a two day period. The output was to the highest graphical quality and could be provided in any format required by the client or consultants.
We used to have the perception that Graphisoft only sold software.
Graphisoft have understood our unique challenges and become a team supporting us on a practical as well as a technical basis. We have never received support like this from anyone. We will be relying on their support during the continued growth of our office. I think Graphisoft is key to that development. Graphisoft have demonstrated the power of ArchiCAD for documentation.

Every day, we simply cannot believe what ArchiCAD does for us. The idea that we can design and document in 3D is one thing. The reality of working in 3D far surpasses anything we imagined. In my office we look at each other every day and wonder why every architect isn't using it.
To know from very first conceptual ideas, through to making small changes to an already fully documented design, what the building is actually like and whether it is working seems like a luxury after using 2D CAD programs. But working in 3D shouldn't be seen as a luxury, it should be seen as necessary. Even for those architects who can visualise well in 3D, what about their staff and what about their clients?
If we weren't already sold on being able to see the building in 3D at all times, the fact that building the model in ArchiCAD creates all the documentation in effect "one move" is certainly convincing enough.

I just thought I would pass on a quick message to thank you and the crew at Graphisoft for delivering a brilliant new version with ArchiCAD 10!
ML Design has been so busy that I have only started using version 10 on a project as of about two weeks ago and it has been excellent! Next to no crashes and brilliant new features especially the new 3D navigation and pre / easy selection and editing.......
I'm looking forward to setting up a new project from scratch and taking advantage of more new features.

We use ArchiCAD because of its all round capability in Design, Documentation, Modelling & Photo Montage. We get to build the building 1st and it offers us a seamless transition of the model through concept stage– DA and on to CC, giving it a huge advantage over other packages.
The model enables the client to get involved from the start of the project, keeping them up to date through the entire process.
